Spirit. Texture. Japanese restraint.

There is something rather unexpected about the meeting of HOKA and BEAMS. One is known for its exaggerated, maximum-cushioning silhouettes; the other for its distinctly Japanese approach to fashion, design and everyday culture. Put the two together and the result is the HOKA Bondi 7 x BEAMS, a new interpretation of HOKA’s familiar silhouette inspired by the quiet beauty of Japan.

For their first collaboration, the two brands look to karesansui, Japan’s traditional dry landscape gardens, where stone, sand and carefully composed forms create a sense of harmony. The inspiration extends to the earthy palette of the collection, which also takes cues from the weathered timber found on historic Japanese temples.

The Bondi 7 arrives in two colourways, Chestnut/Black Bean and Turtledove/Tidal Foam, both finished with a custom camouflage created exclusively for the collaboration. Forget the usual military greens and bold contrasts. Here, the pattern is considerably more subdued, blending naturally into the muted tones of the shoe. Look a little closer and HOKA and BEAMS branding can be found worked discreetly into the camouflage.

We particularly love how the collaboration allows the Bondi 7 to remain completely recognisable. Its distinctive oversized sole and maximum-cushioning construction are still very much present, while the new upper gives the silhouette an entirely different mood. There is less of the technical running shoe about it and more of the effortless street style that BEAMS does so well.

It is a simple idea, but an effective one. Rather than attempting to reinvent the Bondi 7, BEAMS works with what is already there, using colour, pattern and texture to shift its character. The result feels contemporary without losing the slightly unconventional proportions that made the Bondi 7 such a recognisable part of HOKA’s world.

The timing of the collaboration is equally fitting, with BEAMS celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Founded in Tokyo in 1976, the company began as a small shop selling fashion and homeware before evolving into the influential fashion and lifestyle business it is today. Across five decades, BEAMS has built a reputation for bringing together fashion, design, art and culture in ways that feel distinctly its own.

This Bondi 7 feels like another expression of that spirit. HOKA brings the performance and unmistakable silhouette; BEAMS brings a quieter visual language rooted in Japanese design. Together, they create something that feels familiar and new at the same time.

The HOKA Bondi 7 x BEAMS is available in Chestnut/Black Bean and Turtledove/Tidal Foam exclusively at Limited Edt Vault & CHAMBER from 14 August 2026, priced at SGD $289.
